Emotional support provided by the Inquiry

The wellbeing of people participating with the Inquiry is extremely important to the Chair and the Inquiry team. We are committed to ensuring that everyone who comes forward to provide their views is treated with dignity and respect.

The Inquiry funds an independent, confidential* emotional support service, for those affected by our work, which is provided by the British Red Cross.

This support service is managed by a dedicated team of specialist practitioners who have been working with the Inquiry since 2021.

If you would like to receive support from the British Red Cross, you can do so by:

  • Emailing essexinquiry@redcross.org.uk
  • Your request will be responded to within 2 working days
  • Or, speak to a member of the Inquiry team who can arrange support on your behalf.

Please be aware that the emotional support service is not a mental health service.

If you need help for a mental health crisis or emergency, please call 999 or attend at your nearest A&E.

*Please be aware that, if a safeguarding concern arises, the Inquiry team and British Red Cross may have to share information with each other.

You can read more about the Inquiry’s approach to safeguarding here.
